How it works

  1. Add your Markdown. Paste it in, type it, open a file, or drag a .md file onto the page.
  2. Pick a style. Classic looks like a well-set book; GitHub matches how READMEs look on GitHub.
  3. Download. Click Download PDF and save. The live preview shows exactly what you'll get.

Why md2pdf.me

Open Markdown files straight from your computer

In Chrome or Edge, click Install app at the top of this page (or the install icon in the address bar). md2pdf gets its own window and Dock or taskbar icon, works offline, and shows up when you right-click a Markdown file: choose Open With → md2pdf and the file opens ready to download as a PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is my document uploaded anywhere?

No. Your Markdown is converted to a PDF entirely inside your browser. It's saved only in your browser's local storage so it's still here if you reload the page; click Clear to remove it.

Why does "Download PDF" open a print dialog?

Your browser's own PDF engine produces the sharpest text and smallest files, and using it means your document never has to leave your computer. Choose Save as PDF (or PDF → Save as PDF on a Mac) as the destination.

Which browser works best?

Chrome, Edge and Brave give the most faithful results, including page numbers in the Classic style. Safari and Firefox work too; just make sure Print headers and footers is unticked in the print dialog.

Can I include images?

Yes, as long as they're on the web: ![alt text](https://example.com/picture.png). Images stored only on your computer can't be reached from a web page.

How do I start a new page?

Put <div class="page-break"></div> on its own line where you want the break. See the Markdown guide for more tips.

Can I install md2pdf like a desktop app?

Yes, in Chrome or Edge on Mac, Windows, Linux and ChromeOS. Click Install app at the top of the page. The app works offline and appears in the Open With menu for .md files. To uninstall it, open the app and choose Uninstall from its menu (⋮).

Is there a command-line version?

Yes. The same converter is open source on GitHub, with a command-line tool and a Finder right-click action for macOS.
